obert John Skarr, 83, a 52-year resident of Davidsonville, MD and previously of Washington, DC passed away at his home on February 27, 2025. Born on May 13, 1941 in Washington, DC, he graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in 1959 and went on to graduate from the University of Maryland with a BA in English and later with an MA in American Studies and MS in Library Science. Robert enjoyed a lengthy career that spanned multiple special libraries, including the Transportation Institute in Washington, DC, Jack Faucett Associates in Bethesda, MD, and the Smithsonian Institute National History Library for 17 years. Robert also served his country in the United States Navy, deployed on service tours in the Mediterranean and South China Sea off the coast of Vietnam. In his spare time, he enjoyed volunteering for several local historical societies, including Historic Annapolis for 5 years and the Maryland Archives for 5 years. He was also an avid collector of books, music, and art. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jacklyn A Skarr, and his sons, Matthew Skarr of Atlanta, GA and Jonathan Skarr of Ellicott City, MD. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Robert’s life on Tuesday, March 18 at 10:30 am, followed by his funeral service at 11:30 am at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037.
