Sylvia Hayward - Obituary

S

ylvia J. Hayward of Annapolis, MD, passed away on January 3, 2025, at 82. Born in Baltimore, MD, on August 24, 1942, to the late Hazel Dick Lane and Mack Curtis Lane, Sylvia grew up in Harford County, where she graduated from North Harford High School in Street, MD, in 1960. In 1961, she married the late Milton "Milt" S. Hayward. A loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Sylvia had a beautiful smile that warmed your heart and always said or did something to make you feel special. She loved listening to all kinds of music, dancing (especially the jitterbug), collecting antiques, watching tennis, and cuddling with dogs and cats, whether they belonged to her or others. Although she and Milt moved frequently during their 63 years of marriage, her natural talent for home decorating made each home a beautiful and inviting place where family and friends would gather during holidays and special occasions, providing wonderful lifetime memories. Sylvia enjoyed trips that she and Milt took to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, driving the coastline of California, road trips with friends to Nashville and Myrtle Beach, cruises to Bermuda, the Caribbean, Alaska (for their 50th anniversary) and New England, and a trip to Disney World with her grandchildren (Pooh Bear was her favorite character). However, her favorite places were the rolling hills and farmland in northern Harford County, which she had always considered her home. She is survived by her daughter, Danielle Cruttenden (Gary) of Annapolis, MD; daughter Nichole Hayward (Katie) of Edgewater, MD; grandchildren Corey Cruttenden (Kali) of Coon Rapids, MN; Carly Cruttenden Anderson (Steven) of Virginia Beach, VA; Jack and Robbie Hayward of Edgewater, MD and one great-grandchild, Maren Cruttenden. A visitation will be held at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD, on January 25, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m., with a service to follow starting at 3 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date at Slateville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Delta, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA of Anne Arundel County or Slateville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 657, Delta, PA 17314 to benefit the Sunday School program.
