James Patrick Raftery, Jr. - Obituary

ames Patrick Raftery, Jr., 89, of Annapolis, Maryland (formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) died April 19, 2025. He was born on February 27, 1936 to the late James Patrick Raftery, Sr. and Anne Casey Raftery both of Mayo, Ireland and later Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. James served in the United States Air Force in Japan. He graduated magna cum laude in 1962 from Saint Joseph’s College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics and in 1974 with a B.S. in Chemistry. After a career in the federal government, James retired in 1996 as an International Trade Analyst for the U.S. International Trade Commission in the Office of Industries, Energy, Chemicals, Textiles Division. He is survived by his step-children, Charles (“Chuck”); his wife Lori Mackey of Annapolis, Victoria Mackey-Spring, and her husband Thomas Spring of Pinson, Tennessee, and Jacqueline Mackey and her husband Garrett Preis of Great Falls, Virginia; grandchildren, Joshua Mackey of San Diego, California, and Christopher Mackey and his wife Angie Mackey and their children Connor, Laila and Kaylin Mackey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Francis Raftery and his devoted and loving wife, Barbara Ann Raftery. He was well loved by his long-time and caring helpers, Sally, Kady, Maggie and Titilayo. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral services are private.
